		<description>Thanks for the tip.  You wrote that if the external HD is formatted by the DVR and the DVR fails the HD will not be readable from other operating systems.  But can you still hook it to another system and choose to reformat it so it is still usable for other purposes or will it be locked out?

		<description>It might. Most of this depends 1) on the box and 2) whether or not Verizon has enabled the eSTATA port. You could call customer service at Verizon or do a quick search for your area at avsforums.com and search for your particular box. Fios in my area are using the SA 8830 and have enabled the esata port</description>
